The Mahopac Central School District has announced its endorsement of the Putnam County Threat Assessment Management (PC-TAM) network to further enhance the safety and well-being of students, staff and members of the community. This collaboration reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to preventing targeted violence and ensuring a secure, supportive learning environment for all.
PC-TAM is a countywide initiative designed to assess and address threats of violence by identifying concerning behaviors and providing the appropriate interventions before issues escalate. The team consists of law enforcement, mental health professionals and school officials who work together to evaluate reported threats and develop tailored strategies to address the underlying causes of potential violence. Mahopac Superintendent of Schools Christine Tona explained why PC-TAM is the District’s chosen pathway for reporting threats.
“The PC-TAM initiative offers a comprehensive approach to threat assessment by combining mental health resources, law enforcement expertise and educational insight,” Tona said. “By partnering with PC-TAM, we are taking proactive steps to prevent violence in our schools and create a safer atmosphere for our students and staff.”
PC-TAM and similar networks around the country are formed in the belief that early identification and intervention of threats are crucial to mitigating risk. PC-TAM allows district and county authorities to respond quickly and effectively to any potential threats, ensuring that any students involved receive the support they need and that staff have the tools to address concerns before they become a serious risk.
“Our partnership with the Mahopac School District underscores the importance of collaboration between families, schools, law enforcement and mental health professionals in building a safer and more resilient community,” Putnam County Department of Mental Health, Social Services and Youth Bureau Commissioner Sara Servadio said. “We want parents to feel empowered to report potential threats with the knowledge that those threats will be looked into by our team. Our collective goal is to identify and intervene in behaviors that could pose a danger, with the ultimate aim of preventing violence and supporting at-risk individuals.”
Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville shared his thoughts about the announcement.
“The safety of our children and community members is a top priority, and this partnership represents a unified approach to preventing violence and addressing threats before they escalate,” Sheriff McConville said. “By working together with the Mahopac School District and other local partners, we are creating a stronger, more secure environment for everyone.”
Sheriff McConville and Servadio are two of the featured presenters scheduled to speak at the Mahopac Central School District’s Jan. 27 Safety Symposium. Scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Mahopac High School auditorium, the presentation is open to parents and staff. Mahopac continues to prioritize the safety of its students and staff and will remain committed to implementing best practices for school safety, including enhanced threat assessment protocols, regular safety drills and ongoing professional development for faculty and staff.
