Notification System
The district has contracted with SchoolMessenger, the company that provides notification services to automatically call, email, and/or text parents and guardians for a variety of reasons that impact the safety and academic performance of students. SchoolMessenger will be used to complement the district’s community outreach efforts such as, but not limited to, emergency preparedness procedures, inform parents of upcoming school events such as statewide testing and parent meetings, weather-related delays and closings, and lunch account low-balance alerts. Use of the SchoolMessenger system is intended to reinforce the district’s commitment to remain personally connected to parents.

District Decision Making Process
When the schools have delayed openings or will be closed because of snow or other hazardous conditions, the following plans may be implemented:
CLOSURE: All schools in the district will be closed and no buses will operate on this day. This plan will be used on days of extreme hazardous driving conditions when such conditions are expected to last throughout the day.
DELAY: Schools will open, but on a delayed schedule. All bus pickups will be one or two hours late and schools will open accordingly. This plan will be implemented on days of minor ice and snowstorms. By delaying the opening of school one or two hours, the sanding and plowing crews have additional time to clear the roads before the school buses leave the garage.
The following radio stations and Channel 22 are notified to make announcements promptly and as often as possible. Stay tuned to any of these stations. Please do not call the school or the radio stations.
WVIP 1310 AM WDAQ/WLAD 98.3 FM/800 AM
WPUT 1510 AM Channel 22
Please note, if no announcements are made relative to a closure or delay, you may assume that schools are operating on regular schedules. Parents can sign up for e-mail/text messages via a free service from CT Weather website or from the Mahopac Website.
Early Dismissals / Weather Emergencies
On infrequent occasions, the school district or one particular school may need to dismiss children earlier than the scheduled time. Such dismissals and related information will be announced on all local radio stations and on Channel 22 for Comcast customers and Channel 46 for Verizon customers.
Please keep in mind that emergency dismissals of this nature are unexpected and allow little time between incident and dismissal. When dangerous road conditions exist, we will make every attempt to return students as close as possible to their regular bus stops.
We ask every parent to discuss alternate plans with their children – particularly primary-school-age students – in the event a child must be sent home early and a responsible person is not present. This should be done early in September and reviewed with a young child often.
