Fulmar Road second and third graders recently had the exciting opportunity to meet Phil Bildner, the New York Times bestselling author of the critically acclaimed “Rip and Red” series. During his dynamic presentation, Bildner shared his passion about reading and writing, giving students gathered in the Fulmar Road cafeteria a little glimpse of what it takes to write a book.
“Reading is the key to being a writer and a good student,” Bildner said. “If you think you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right books yet. Choose a book based on topics you like.”
He explained to the students that the skills they learn in their classrooms are the same skills an author uses to write a book. Bildner compared his editor to their teachers, emphasizing how both challenge writers to revise and improve their work.
The author encouraged the students to share their favorite reading series with the group. The young readers eagerly raised their hands, excited to recommend their favorite books with their friends.
