UPDATE: We were informed by law enforcement at 10:51 a.m. that the suspect is in police custody and we have now lifted the district lockout.

To follow up on our earlier communication, we were informed by the Town of Carmel Police Department that there was “no direct involvement to Mahopac at this time.” With that information, out of an abundance of caution, we implemented the lockout at all of our schools. As a district, we have a strong partnership with the Town of Carmel PD and with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and this includes open lines of communication. We rely on them to provide us with the guidance that will keep all of our students and staff safe.

We utilize our student management system to issue communication with staff and families. If you did not receive earlier communication, please send an email to parentaccounts@mahopac.org and your contact information will be reviewed.

Sincerely,

***

Good morning Mahopac community,

Out of an abundance of caution, in light of the recent police activity in the Somers and Putnam Valley area, the Mahopac Central School District will be on lockout today until further notice. This will be a districtwide lockout effective at 9:20 a.m. once arrival is complete at Austin Road and Fulmar Road.

We have been in communication with law enforcement and there is no direct involvement to Mahopac at this time. Scheduled field trips will continue as planned and High School students who attend BOCES will not be affected. Should anything change, we will provide an update.

Sincerely,

Christine Tona
