On Oct. 2, the Mahopac High School hosted Wellfest, the annual student health and activities fair held in the school gymnasium. Wellfest showcased 20 exhibitors who were on hand to connect students with health information, activities and resources available in the school and around the community.
“Wellfest is a festive way for students to connect with clubs, organizations and activities that promote health and wellness,” Health coordinator and teacher Valarie Nierman said. “It is important to destigmatize certain topics for our students, and it can be empowering for them to learn that there are many people in our school and community that are here to help.”
When they walked into the fair, students were given “Wellfest passports” with the exhibitors listed inside. Each time students visited an exhibitor, they received a stamp on their passport, and those students who collected five or more stamps would be entered into a drawing to win a Wellfest T-shirt or other raffle prize. This encouraged students to stop by multiple booths and explore the activities and resources available to them.
