Mahopac Announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Mahopac High School seniors Maya Lewis and Daniel Walsh, two distinguished students, have been named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2025. They’ve been recognized for their exceptional academic achievements and dedication throughout their high school careers.

“Maya and Daniel have not only achieved remarkable academic success, but they’ve also led with integrity, curiosity and heart,” Mahopac High School Principal Patrick Keevins said. “They’ve made a lasting impact on our school community and we can’t wait to see how they continue to shape the world beyond Mahopac.”

Lewis, who earned the highest cumulative GPA in the graduating class, is known for her academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities and commitment to the school community. She is actively involved in numerous school organizations, including the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Math Team, Engineering Club, ImPACt Mentoring, the Balloon Club with the Mahopac Public Library and has participated in Science Olympiad.

“I am truly honored to be named the valedictorian,” Lewis said. “This recognition is the result of all the dedication and hard work I have put into my education over the past 13 years.”

Lewis acknowledged the support and encouragement from her classmates and teachers who made her educational journey enjoyable and rewarding, and also attributed her success to her father who has been a constant source of motivation.

“I’m very grateful for my time at Mahopac,” she said. “Starting from as early as kindergarten, Mahopac nurtured my love for learning. I’ve had a lot of good teachers that allowed me to get where I am today, and I will definitely miss seeing and learning from them when I graduate.”

Looking ahead, Lewis is eager to begin the next chapter of her academic journey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she plans to pursue a degree in engineering.

Walsh has been a dedicated student, leader and role model throughout his high school career, demonstrating exceptional academic achievement, outstanding leadership and a deep commitment to service.

His list of accomplishments is extensive as he has served as the Executive Student Body President, captained the varsity wrestling team and led multiple academic organizations as president of the Science National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society and the Engineering Club. Walsh completed two research projects, volunteered as both a peer mentor and tutor, worked as a summer camp counselor and leadership staff member, and was selected to attend the prestigious American Legion Boys’ State program.

“Being named salutatorian means a great deal to me as it reflects the hard work I have put towards my studies and achieving my goals throughout the last four years,” Walsh said. “My high school career has been filled with challenges, accomplishments and unforgettable memories, and finishing my senior year on such a high note makes it all the more special.”

Walsh’s academic journey is culminating in not only the honor of salutatorian, but also in an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he will join the Class of 2029 and continue his path toward serving as a military officer. He is currently considering a major in engineering.

“Thanks to the amazing support and opportunities Mahopac has offered, as well as the friends who have been by my side, I’ve been able to turn my goals into reality,” Walsh said. “I’ll always cherish the memories we’ve made, and look forward to what’s ahead.”
